Arts & Letters Ambassadors
Never a dull moment
You never know what you might see on your way to class: puppies rolling around the lawn, live a capella music, or even a camel that you can pet! During my time at Southern Miss, I've attended an ice skating party in the middle of spring, a "silent rave" with music was pumped through wireless headphones, and a karaoke competition during dinner in the dining hall. And If my personal favorite organization, the speech and debate team, doesn't tickle your fancy, you can always start a club of your own!
Old school at heart
On campus I was a part of Sigma Alpha Iota, a music fraternity which I loved being a part of for helping others in the community with community service events and more. I love walking down to T-Bones with my boyfriend to look for vinyls, yes I know this is old school but we are at heart old school, it makes you feel so relaxed and calming. I was also a part of PRSSA which is a huge organization to be a part of especially if you are a PR, Advertising, or Marketing major.
I stay busy!
I certainly try and stay busy outside the classroom. I am the Vice President of the International Club, the President of Phi Alpha Theta (the history honor society), involved in the Student Government Association, serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the university’s undergraduate research journal, The Catalyst, and write a weekly political column for our student newspaper, the Student Printz. In my free time I enjoy reading, running, and the occasional Netflix binge.
Bowling and restaurant trivia
I'm a member of the Epsilon Delta chapter of the Chi Omega fraternity. I'm also on the executive board of the Vietnamese Student Association, the student organization that has won USM's organization of the year for the past two years. I bowl with a co-ed intramural team in the spring semesters, and I compete in trivia at various restaurants and bars around Hattiesburg during the week.
Running on Hattiesburg'g Long Leaf Trace
Being a dance major doesn't leave me with a lot of spare time! However, I am a member of Student Dance Organization and Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society. I've been a Resident Assistant and am enrolled in the Senior Honors Program. I am also active with Campus Crusade. My favorite thing to do in Hattiesburg is run on the Longleaf Trace.
American College Dance Association Leadership team
Outside of studying I am involved in Phi Mu, National Dance Education Organization, American College Dance Association Leadership team, and, of course, the Arts and Letters Ambassadors.
Hang out at T-Bones Cafe
I have had the opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica, serve as the VP of a student organization, conduct independent research, and work with professors and graduate students in interesting research labs. Whether it is going to hang out at T-Bones Cafe and Record Shop, catching a movie at the nearby Grand Theatre, or heading downtown to have a day in the park, there is plenty to do in Hattiesburg!
College Bible study
I am very involved at my church, so I lead a college group Bible study and help with the middle school ministry. Otherwise, I participate in several on-campus groups, like the Honors College Ambassadors and Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. Around Hattiesburg, I love to explore downtown; there are so many small businesses that make the town feel very personable and quaint.
I love being involved on campus!
I am a Southern Miss cheerleader, and have been since I was a freshman. I am the 2016 Chapter President of Alpha Chi Omega, and I was a founding member of our chapter here at Southern Miss. I am the President of L'Association Francaise (Southern Miss's French Club), and I serve as Study Abroad Peer Advisor and Ambassador for the History Department. I am also a Presidential Scholar in the Honors College.
Always something happening on campus
On campus, there is always something taking place. Concerts, theater productions, pep rallies, and sporting events are just a few of the opportunities that are available to a Southern Miss student.
Athletics and Greek life philanthropies
Southern Miss has given me many opportunities of involvement. I am currently serving as a Resident Assistant for the Department of Residence Life. I am also a Student Activities Ambassador, a member of the 2015 Southern Style Orientation team and a part of the SGA Election Commission. Outside of these organizations, I enjoy spending my time supporting various athletic events and Greek life philanthropies.
Catholic Student Association
Most of my free time on campus is spent at the Catholic Student Association.
I am currently a member and co treasurer for Alpha Psi Omega, which is the Theatre honors society. We do service projects that benefit the Hattiesburg community such as canned food drives, as well as holding events that benefit our fellow students like our new play festival and dances.
I love working to better Southern Miss in any way I can
I'm the parliamentarian of the SGA Senate, and I co-chair a committee that is focused on student success and retention. In Hattiesburg, I love the different venues for food and music, as well as the variety of coffee shops!
Always something going on
I've been heavily involved with the Baptist Student Union, a Christian ministry on campus. It's given me a place to practice my leadership skills as I served on their leadership team, as well as grow my personal faith and travel to incredible places to serve on school breaks. My closest friendships have been formed with the people of this organization. There is always something going on on campus, from special speakers to community service projects to DJs and concerts.
I am currently involved in the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, where I participate in community service opportunities. I am also a member of the History Ambassadors where I attend special events to entice high school students to major in History or other exciting majors the History Department offers.
Downtown Hattiesburg is the place to be!
Besides being a member of the College of Arts and Letters Ambassadors, I am also a member of several honor societies on campus. I joined the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) club in my home department of Art and Design my sophomore year. When looking for activities outside of university life, downtown Hattiesburg is the place to be! It is filled with great restaurants, shopping and a lively music scene.
Stargazing at Paul B. Johnson State Park
On campus I’m involved with the Catholic Student Association and I sing in the choir for the two student led masses, I’m in Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and I’m vice president of the Anthropology Society. In my down time I love stargazing at Paul B. Johnson State Park with my friends, I like to draw around campus, and when the weather is nice I like reading on the porch swings at the Honor House.
